Laundry Day
Today I helped a young man in the laundromat. He said that he usually hand-washes his clothes and he was unfamiliar with the machine. He had a lot of questions, "What's the difference between the eco mode, the superwash, and the superwash plus?" After discerning together that neither one of us knew much about these settings, it came down to, "what's the temperature of the water and, will the clothes shrink?"
He told me that he would meet with someone special tomorrow and didn't want to wear too-small clothing. Understandable.
He called the emergency laundromat phone number and they assured him the wash temperature was a warm, but not shrinking-warm, 24 degrees Celsius.
We determined shortly after that, that the dryer temperature was variable with a delicate permanent press, low temp with cool-down option. At that point there was a plan and all seemed right in the world. (As the laundry finished washing, he wisely folded the important clothes to hang to dry later at his alburgue.)
The big decisions to be made on the Camino.
I spoke a little more with Alberto as our clothes dried (at a low temperature). He is working in the U.K. but originally from Spain. He is walking the Camino Frances, also beginning at St Jean Pied de Port. He is healing from an injury and, I believe, will make it to Santiago. Buen Suerte, Alberto, I will light that candle.
