Sock

Lone sock.

While doing laundry at Oasis Alburgue, one sock went missing. Between the spinner and the clothes line, the sock disappeared. Retracing every step, still no sock. Others at the alburgue helped look for the sock but to no avail.

This may seem like a simple thing, but socks take on new importance when hiking and feet without blisters depend on clean dry socks. I carry three pairs only and missing one sock means laundry more frequently. It is difficult to dry clothing most days being overcast or raining.

But we move on and it really is a small thing.

A couple of days later (and a couple of borrowed socks from Mando later) we were hiking in a desolate area and came upon this sock.

Someone had lovingly strung a sock from a tree in case one was needed. People often tie clean socks to the outside of their packs (because nothing dries quickly). Perhaps this one fell off someone's pack and another person picked it up and strung it to dry. I'll never know. There is a saying out here that the Camino provides and this day that was true!

Freshly washed new Camino socks.
My favorite pair.
